Tinubu Snubs Osinbajo at APC Convention Ground

National leader of the All Progressives Congress Bola Tinubu snubbed Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday, June 8 at the special national convention of the party in Abuja.

At the time it had become clear he would emerge winner of the presidential primary, Tinubu went over to the State House box to greet President Muhammadu Buhari, the first lady Aisha Buhari and APC national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu.

The former Lagos governor walked past a seated Osinbajo, his contender for the party’s ticket, and bowed to President Buhari before shaking hands with him.

He only returned to greet Osinbajo when prompted by an aide of the vice president.

Osinbajo had left the venue of the convention earlier in the day and returned with President Buhari.

Tinubu obtained 1,271 votes to clinch the presidential ticket while Osinbajo came third with 235 votes. Earlier, Tinubu’s cronies such as Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi and former Ogun State governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun stepped down for him at the convention and urged their supporters to vote for the former Lagos governor.

Many saw Osinbajo’s insistence to contest the ticket with Tinubu, who appointed him as attorney-general of Lagos in 1999, as betrayal. But the vice president’s aides countered the claims.

When asked what he thought about Osinbajo’s declaration to contest APC presidential ticket back in April, Tinubu said he did not have any (political) son who was old enough to make such a decision.

“I have no son grown enough to declare,” the man popularly called Jagaban said.
