An All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) chieftain, Chief Prince Ikechukwu Tabansi has cautioned that much should not be expected from the Governor-Elect Prof. Charles Soludo in his first tenure given the parlous state of the Anambra economy he is likely to inherit.
According to Tabansi, as brilliant as Soludo maybe, he would not likely be in a hurry to do certain things because the outgoing governor, Chief Willie Obiano “mismanaged the blossoming economy of the state he inherited on frivolous projects”.TAP HERE TO READ ORIGINAL
In an interview on Monday in his country home, at Nri kingdom in Anaocha local government area of Anambra state, Tabansi cited bad roads in the state which he described as appalling as part of the challenges Soludo will face on coming into office.
Not hiding his sadness over the situation, Tabansi said: “It’s true that we have a functioning brand new airport, but that should not compel him to neglect other projects just for a single project to stand.
” So, I don’t think I expect much from Soludo in his first term because he has to struggle a lot to pay the workers among other responsibilities in the state.
“As I don’t expect much, I still believe that in the long run, Soludo is going to be among the greatest achievers recorded in the history of Anambra state.”
He said further: “I didn’t work for Prof. Soludo because of his wealth or for any pecuniary benefits. Rather I had x-rayed the whole candidates and later discovered that Soludo to me is the better candidate in all put together and he has proven it to be a good economic manager.
” Even when he was the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, everybody witnessed his landmark achievements in the financial world. I believe that he is going to do well but he should be given enough space to prove his mettle.”
Tabansi said that he harboured no grudges against Governor Obiano but that in governance, one should carry everybody along.
“The day you start differentiating between Aguleri frontiers and other people from other clans in a particular administration, things will definitely start going wrong.
” The Anambra state economy has been grounded since two years ago because Governor Obiano overlooked his people and they kept squandering our commonwealth.
” To buttress this point, take a look into our state motor parks. When I was in charge of parks in Onitsha, I was generating over an N97million every month.
“But for the past two years when the Governor’s wife took over the management of parks, they only realised less than N47million for the state government, where does the remaining go to?”, he queried
