Real Madrid Coach Carlo Ancelotti Warns Antonio Rudiger Urgently Before The Next Season

Germany international Antonio Rüdiger could end up on the bench at Real Madrid after joining the Spanish champions from Chelsea on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old signed a four-year deal on the summer transfer market, becoming the tenth German player to wear the famous white jersey.

Real Madrid were impressed by the centre-back’s performance against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League in April, when the no-nonsense defender triumphed 3-2 in the second leg in Spain.

He is expected to play a major role in Los Blancos’ defense this season but that might not be the case.

Speaking to the media after El Clasico, Carlo Ancelotti hinted that he will not change his defense after winning the UEFA Champions League last season.

“David Alaba will only play at left-back in exceptional cases. I don’t want to touch that [centre-back] Pairing that worked last year,” said the 63-year-old manager.

“I like Rudiger a lot. I’m not crazy and he’s very intelligent. He can play in that position [left-back], just like he can change in the match against Alaba. They didn’t do that today because it went well.”

The former AC Milan, PSG and Chelsea gaffer therefore plans to stick with his favorite Eder Militao-Alaba combination next season, leaving Rudiger at left-back or on the bench.

Meanwhile, Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo maintained his dominance over Real Madrid new signing Antonio Rudiger during Sunday morning’s El Clasico.

The Uruguay international proved strong and physically superior after beating Rudiger with speed and power from dribbling.

Ten minutes later, there was another episode involving the two after both groups of players were brought together. When Rudiger tried to pull Araujo out, the 23-year-old didn’t back down.

After Araujo put his feet down, Rudiger couldn’t move him an inch and Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had to intervene.

Earlier, sports letter had reported Rudiger will play a hybrid role at Real Madrid if what Ancelotti told the media is anything to believe.

The former Chelsea defender will switch from centre-back to left-back if necessary – and Alaba will do the same.

El Clasico was Madrid’s first of three preseason games in the United States. The Spanish champions will also face Club America and end their tour with a game against Juventus next week.
