PSG’s odds to win Champions League slashed in light of Messi’s imminent arrival

Hardly anyone could have fathomed Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi ever being in the same front three.

But Paris Saint-Germain have made it happen – and they now boast arguably the world’s best side in terms of talent.

Messi is on the verge of signing for the French giants on an initial two-year deal, with Barcelona announcing his shock departure from the club after 21 years last week.

The news sent shockwaves around the football world, but PSG wasted no time in making their move with Neymar said to be the driving force behind the transfer – who expressed his delight at the news on Instagram.

Their attack, who have 1,175 goals between them in their careers (683 by Messi), is simply astonishing – and former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov reckons no-one will want to play the Ligue 1 side in this season’s Champions League.

PDP has scheduled its national convention for October

He told Betfair: “PSG are definitely going to be a force in the Champions League this season and they will be feared by teams, no one will want them in their group and no one will want to face them in the knockouts.

“When I was at United, people used to look at us in the tunnel and you could tell from their faces that they were already defeated.

“Now PSG, with Messi, Neymar, Mbappe, Sergio Ramos and all their other great players, will experience a similar thing.”

PSG’s odds to finally win Europe’s premier competition have unsurprisingly been slashed in light of Messi’s impending arrival.

Just last week, City were favourites at 3/1 shots to win the trophy, with PSG priced at 6/1.

But with Messi arriving, the French giants have overtaken the Premier League champions as the new favourites at 11/4, with Pep Guardiola’s men now a 7/2 shot to claim club football’s most prestigious trophy.
Messi’s favourite Champions League opponents

Arsenal – 9 goals

AC Milan – 8 goals

Celtic – 8 goals

Bayer Leverkusen – 7 goals

Paris Saint-Germain – 6 goals

Manchester City – 6 goals

German champions and six-time Champions League winners are the third favourites at 6/1, while reigning European champions Chelsea have odds of 17/2.

Messi was widely tipped to join City but the Parc des Princes is now where he is headed.

City fans will be wary though as Messi’s record against them is superb.

He has scored six goals against them in the Champions League – the second highest English club after Arsenal (9).

Therefore, Pep Guardiola may well have to find a way to stop the Argentina superstar – if anyone can.
