President Buhari Advises The Next President, Says Must Secure Nigeria

The statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari that the next president that will take over from him in the next 17 months (a year and five months) to secure the country, sounds more like a statement of defeat and that is the last thing Nigerians expected from the President, who was once an Army General.

The statement that the next President should secure Nigeria sounds like an admission that the country is not secure and the president has given up on his promise to secure the country hence, his call on the yet to be elected successor, to secure the country. Contrary to his promise to end insecurity during the 2015 general election campaign, President Muhammadu Buhari after over six years in office as the President of Nigeria, is still using the word “I will defeat terrorists” instead of “I have” and I wonder if the word “I will” will ever change to “I have” before the President’s tenure ends in 2023.

With the rate at which the terrorists now attack places presumed to be secure and the recent attack on Borno airport less than an hour before the arrival of the President at the airport, it is safe to say the president have done the best he can in the area of insecurity and Nigerians should not expect more from him hence, his call on the next president to “secure the country”.
