Nigerian Soldier Narrates How He Was Arrested, Sentenced To Death For Demanding Better Weapons To Fight Terrorists

A Nigerian Armed Forces (NAF) Special Forces soldier, Trooper Temple Ahunaya, recounted how he was arrested, sentenced to death and then sentenced to ten years in prison for demanding better weapons in the fight against Boko Haram.

He was sent to Maiduguri, Borno State, where he served as a city patrol, from where he was later transferred to the Damboa local government area.

In Damboa, he and other soldiers defeated the Boko Haram terrorists with their worst weapons. What he said caused him to complain to his ” loving” commander. He said, ” Sir, when we made our first attack, I saw my gun stuck. The gun muffled, It’ s stuck. ”

He was ordered by the commander to repair his rifle daily, which he said he did. Then he was sent to the Sambisa Forest, where he said he ” knew that what Boko Haram terrorists used against (my) troops was more complicated than what I used. ”

In the gun battles that followed during his deployment, Ahunaya discovered that the terrorists were armed with new machine guns and anti- aircraft machine guns compared to the troops’ highest NPMG machine guns.

Various inferiorities in the effectiveness of the weapons led him to return to his command, especially since there were no medical personnel accompanying the troops during this operation against the rebels.

His mother, Mrs Virginia Ahunaya in reaction to her son’ s release expressed thanks to God for the divine intervention in how his sentence was watered down from death to ten years imprisonment which he has successfully completed.

She also appealed to well- meaning individuals to assist Trooper Temple with gainful employment so he can restart his life again as he did not receive any financial remuneration from the army.
