Morning Food Should Not Always Be Bread, Egg And Tea, Check out 6 Healthy Alternatives You Can Try

No monopoly whatsoever should be applied when it comes to food, rather we should learn to eat from a broad spectrum of delicious and healthy foods, there are three periods in a day where we have to eat, morning (for breakfast), afternoon (lunch) and evening (dinner), these periods have different foods that suit them, but picking the best foods option to eat in the morning and monopolizing it is not the best thing to do. With my childhood experience of eating bread, egg, and tea almost every morning, I got so used to the food that it was hard for me to see other foods as suitable foods for breakfast, well, that has changed after making conscious effort, bread, egg, and tea is a good pick for morning food, but it is not the only good option out there, other foods options are best eaten in the morning, some of which you’ll get to see in this article.

Breakfast as it is popularly referred to is the first meal we eat in a day, it should be laced with essential nutrients that are needed to go through the morning till we eat the next meal, lunch. According to betterhealth.vic.gov.au, morning foods should contain some key nutrients that will help our development, these key nutrients include

√ B vitamins

√ Folate

√ Calcium

√ Fibre and

√ Iron

On an individual basis, these nutrients are valuable and offer good health benefits, take calcium as a case study, the generally known and accepted function of calcium in our body is to maintain strong bones, but that’s not all about calcium, calcium also helps our nerves and heart muscles to function properly, iron, on another front is known for it support in blood production aside other health benefits.

Having said that, I will show you 6 alternative breakfasts you can eat instead of sticking to bread and tea, it is better you have your way around many foods, and as it is rightly said “variety is the spice of life”. Note that the foods listed are not just good foods for breakfast, they are also healthy foods, they are nutritious and you can conveniently eat them in the morning.

 

 

1. Sweet Potato.

There are multiple ways to prepare sweet potato for breakfast but the fact that sweet potato is the main condiment of the recipe makes it a good morning food, sweet potato contains nutrients like vitamins B and C, fibre, calcium, and iron, referring back to the key nutrients that are important for breakfast you’d see that most of them correlate with those contained in sweet potato.

2. Eggs.

Eggs for breakfast can be combined with other foods like bread, yam, etc. It is a nutritious food and it can be prepared in different ways, we have fried eggs, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, etc. Eggs are rich in vitamin B12, vitamin A, vitamin D, egg also contains choline, an important nutrient for humans. Try eggs for breakfast as it is a healthy pick.

3. Banana.

Banana is a sweet fruit that can serve a wide range of purposes, it can be eaten as breakfast and it has good health benefits making it a healthy morning food, this fruit can be eaten based on the individual’s choice and there would hardly be a need to regret eating bananas for breakfast, bananas are rich in fibres, iron, vitamin C, potassium, vitamin B6 and folate, the last two nutrients (vitamin B6 and folate) help it the production of serotonin which helps improve our mood and reduce anxiety, this is a good food to start the day, right?

4. Oatmeal.

This is a well-known morning food, you need not think too much about a food like this, I can assure you that you have no issue when you eat oatmeal moderately for breakfast. Oatmeal is rich in beta-glucan fibre, which helps lower cholesterol.

5. Breakfast Cereals.

Breakfast cereals like cornflakes, and more are healthy foods and as the name implies they are typical breakfast foods, nutrients such as calcium, vitamin B6, dietary fibre, iron, and more are part of the nutrients that breakfast cereals offer, you can eat them in place of bread and tea for breakfast.

6. Avocado.

Avocado contains heart-healthy fat, dietary fibres, and water, it can be eaten as a breakfast food as it is highly nutritious and not problematic when eaten in moderate quantities.
