Mo Salah speaks out on Darwin Nunez replacing Sadio Mane after new Liverpool deal

Liverpool confirmed that Mohamed Salah has signed a new contract with the club and he is now looking forward to the next three years on Merseyside as he gets set to line up alongside Darwin Nunez

Mohamed Salah has opened up about how “excited” he is to play with Darwin Nunez after the Egyptian signed a new long-term Liverpool contract.

The 29-year-old has penned a three-year deal which will keep him at the Reds until 2025 and the contract will make him the highest-paid player in the club’s history with wages in excess of £350,000 per week. Salah has been a key man for Liverpool since joining from the Italian club in 2017, helping Jurgen Klopp’s side win the Premier League and Champions Leagueamong other trophies.

After winning the Golden Boot with 23 league goals last season, Salah will be aiming to replicate that feat as he enters into his sixth year with the Reds. However, it will be the first one he will not play alongside Sadio Mane following his switch to Bayern Munich last month.

The Senegal international made the £35million move to the Allianz Arena after six years at Anfield. Liverpool were quick to replace him, though, with the big-money signing of Benfica talisman Nunez, who scored 34 goals in all competitions last term including two against the Reds.

Nunez struck in both legs of their Champions League quarter-final defeat at the hands of Liverpool back in April and is expected to bring some much-needed height, power and physicality to the front line. Salah is looking forward to teaming up with the pair as they aim to win more trophies next season.

Salah told Liverpool’s YouTube channel : “I am so excited, I want to play with him (Nunez). He had a good season last season and played very well against us, home and away.

“Sadio is leaving and I am going to miss him, we had some very good seasons together. So I wish him all the best and I wish Darwin all the best to score many goals for us.”

On signing his new deal, Salah said: “I feel great and [I am] excited to win trophies with the club. It’s a happy day for everyone. It takes a little bit of time, I think, to renew, but now everything is done so we just need to focus on what’s next.

“I think you can see in the last five or six years the team was always going [upwards]. Last season we were close to winning four, but unfortunately in the last week of the season we lost two trophies.

“I think we are in a good position to fight for everything. We have new signings as well. We just need to keep working hard, have a good vision, be positive and go for everything again.”
