How the invasion of Sunday Igboho’s house by DSS became the most talked-about event in 2021

The year 2021 has had some of the most thrilling events spanning from politics, entertainment, crimes, extraditions, among others. However, one of the most notable events that happened in 2021 was the invasion of Sunday Igboho’s house, the convener of the Oodua Nation campaign. Recall that around July 2021, the Officials of the Department of State Services invaded the residence of the self-styled Yoruba activist, killing one of his important guards and arresting 13 others including his wife, who was later released.

On the 1st of July, 2 days before the planned mega rally in Lagos, Sunday Igboho suffered an attack in the middle of the night which left two of his guards dead and 13 others abducted. Hours later, the Department of State Services, DSS, confirmed that they were the ones that raided the self-styled Yoruba activist’s residence on the ground that he was stockpiling weapons in his house. Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in his compound and several other items such as his passports, laptops, and phones, were also taken away.

This incident became the talking point among Nigerians as they condemned the federal government for invading the privacy of the Yoruba activist. To secure his life, Sunday Igboho went into hiding as his followers continue to protest against the unlawful invasion of his resident. Although he was later arrested in the Benin Republic weeks after.
