BREAKING:Liverpool triple transfer sweep takes care of £38m Sadio Mane replacement

Liverpool are looking to sell players this summer transfer window.

Liverpool selling three players this transfer window could help pay for the arrival of one top Jurgen Klopp target. Harry Wilson has already left but there is interest in Nat Phillips and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Liverpool are interested in signing Jeremy Doku from Rennes but his price-tag has put them off for the time being.

The Reds will need to offload some fringe players in order to stump up the funds for the Belgium international, who has long been held in high regard by Anfield chiefs.

According to Voetbal24, Rennes have priced Doku at €45m (£38m) while Liverpool watched the winger throughout the Euro 2020 tournament.

And when the 19-year-old was in action, he made people stand up and watch – he was electric.

It is no surprise that the Merseyside outfit have seen the youngster as the long-term successor to Sadio Mane, even telling him that as a 15-year-old.

When he was coming up through the ranks at Anderlecht, Liverpool tried to persuade him to move to Anfield by revealing his path to the first-team.

The plan was to gradually dose him into the squad and let him learn from Mane, who will turn 30 this season, and let Doku fill his boots when he departed.

But the teenager eventually opted to move to Ligue 1 instead – a perfect league for the development of youngsters, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Eduardo Camavinga and Jules Kounde recent examples.

Liverpool have another chance to sign Doku but they need to sell players first but club chief Michael Edwards is a shrewd negotiator and is working to move on two more players.

That would add to the £12m fee they received from Fulham for Harry Wilson, who left after making just two appearances for the club.

Nat Phillips looks set to leave with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez back in the squad from injury and the arrival of Ibrahima Konate, all pushing him back down the pecking order.

Burnley are interested with Liverpool asking for £15m for the dependable centre-back.

Meanwhile they have also slapped a £12m price tag on Xherdan Shaqiri, who has attracted plenty of suitors across Europe.

Combined with the Wilson fee, that would bring in £39m – enough to secure Doku, with a little change to spare.

Of course, transfers do not always work like that and there are several hidden costs that would chip away at the total fee.

But it is possible to garner the funds through player sales while not largely breaking up Klopp’s main squad.

And the result would be the addition of one of the top talents from Ligue 1 that could become a huge star at Liverpool for years to come.
