Babcock University Loses Lecturer, Dr Solomon Iguanre



Backcock University, Ogun State, has lost one of its lecturers, Dr Solomon Iguanre.

According to a report on Friday May 13, 2022, Iguanre passed on after a brief illness.

Expressing his condolences via his Facebook page on Friday, a senior lecturer at the University of Ibadan,Dr Oladoyin Odebowale, said the death of Iguanre was a rude shock.

Odebowale, who is also a Senior Special Assistant on Special Duty to the Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, wrote, “Just heard that my friend and colleague, Dr Solomon Iguanre, passed on yesterday.”

According to Odebowale, Solomon was ill, but did not survive it.

“He took ill and did not survive,” he stated.

He added, “Solomon was a human being. He was one of the few I related with without reservations in UI. He was jovial, easy-going and decent. Painful that I will not see him again.”

“May he find peace among the ancestors,” he prayed.

Solomon Iguanre, co-founded the famous Laffomania Organisation, a campus-based comedy group that featured prominently on university campuses across the South West, Nigeria in the mid-80s to 90s.

He wrote most of those hilarious skits that gave the group its uniqueness, and some of these have been captured in this collection.

One of the skits, Money Vs Woman was among the twenty selected and performed at the Actor Drama fiesta in the United States, and the only entry from Africa in 2005.

Solomon Iguanre was an Associate Professor of Dramatic Literature and taught in the Department of Languages and Literary Studies, Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.

He contributed to several journals and chapters in literature-related books. He was a committed academic, researcher and writer.
