A 28- year- old farmer, identified as Solomon Ochadi, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’ s Court Sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, for allegedly killing Mrs Elizabeth Ochadi, his mother, because of food.

According to Opeyemi Olagunju, the police prosecutor, who told the court that Solomon, the accused person, killed his 50- year- old mother by pushing her to a wall in their house and she gave up.

The prosecutor said, ‘ ‘ the offence contravened Section 316 and was punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000. ‘ ‘

The prosecutor, while narrating to the court how the incident happened, stated that the accused had returned from the farm and had requested that his 50- year- old mother, Elizabeth, should give him food, but the deceased said that there was no food in the house.

Olagunju said the defendant became infuriated by the response of the deceased and violently pushed her against the wall and she died on the spot.

The prosecutor said the accused, after realising that he had killed his mother, quickly dug a grave behind their house and buried her there, thinking that no one had seen him.
