2023 ELECTION: Atiku, Kwankwaso, Tambuwal, Others Set To Lose Presidential Ticket

The presidential ambition of key political contestants from the northern area has come under heavy check as regional stakeholders like Afenifere, Ohaneze and their middle belt counterparts withdraws support from northern aspirants.

The decision for a power shift was contained in a statement signed by elder statesmen, Chief Edwin Clark, President General Ohaneze Ndigbo Prof George Obiozor, Leader of Afenifere Chief Ayo Adebanjo, and Dr Pogus Bitrus who is the National President Middle Belt Forum.

Nigeria has been managed by the northerners more than any other region since her independence in 1960, yet the country has virtually nothing to show for it 61 years after.

The current manager of the country President Buhari had been president in the 90s, but presently seems to be overwhelmed by the challenges of the 21st century.

PIFmedia observed that a higher percentage of the country’s GDP comes from the south while the APC government don’t seem to involve people from the southern protectorate in sensitive aspects of governance and decision making and this accounts for continued agitation from the southern region.

Interestingly, the middle belt forum which is also counted as part of the northern bloc has earlier demanded that all political parties zone their presidential ticket to the south in the spirit of fairness. The group insisted that they would not support any candidate from the north this time around.

The meeting of regional leaders however resolved that the extant constitution and structure of Nigeria are grossly flawed and lopsided. They therefore demanded the fundamental restructuring of the country by enacting a new constitution that would enthrone equity, fairness and justice.

The communique further read, “The northern part of the country would have fully enjoyed the office of the Presidency of the country for the full statutory period of eight years by 2023, hence, the Presidency should rotate to the south.

“Therefore, we unequivocally, and in full resolve, call on all political parties in the country to zone their presidential tickets to the south and advise that any political party that does not zone its presidential ticket to the south should not expect support from the four regions.

The leaders contended that Nigeria belongs to all the citizens while noting that the basis of any viable democracy, especially in a diverse and complex country like Nigeria is fair and even sharing of power.
